Oculomotor, Trochlear and Abducens Nerves

While cranial nerves III, IV and VI are clinically examined concurrently, the clinician must understand the specific anatomical functions for each nerve. The specific innervations are listed below, and a diagram depicting muscle function is depicted in the diagram to the right.  
Oculomotor Nerve (CN III)
  • Inferior oblique
  • Superior rectus
  • Medial rectus
  • Inferior rectus
  • Levator palpebrae superioris
  • Constrictor pupillae
  • Ciliary muscles
Trochlear Nerve (CN IV)
  • Superior oblique
Abducens Nerve (CN VI)
  • Lateral rectus
