Testing Procedures – Tracking

Instruct the patient to follow your finger or an object with his or her eyes only, making sure the patient holds his or her head still. The clinician will move in a double "H" pattern and then in an "X" pattern. The clinician will move in an arc to remain about 8 inches away from a child's head or about 16 inches away from an adult's head. The figure to the right depicts a patient following the red eraser on the tip of a pencil through a double "H" pattern. Document normal or abnormal responses.
