Trigeminal Nerve Clinical Notes and Interpretation
  • The jaw reflex is a good indicator of increased tone.
  • CNS lesions will likely involve all 3 divisions of CN V.
  • PNS lesions can involve one or more of the branches.
  • An upper motor neuron lesion (UMNL) will produce little dysfunction due to bilateral innervation to the muscles of mastication.
  • A lower motor neuron lesion (LMNL) will result in paralysis and atrophy of the muscles of mastication.
