Facial Nerve
Introduction
- Motor function is evaluated using a variety of observed facial expressions, and taste is evaluated over the anterior tongue (CN VII) and the posterior tongue (CN IX)
Tests to be performed
- Sensory and Motor testing
Expected findings
- Facial symmetry while performing facial expressions and the ability to identify common tastes placed on the tongue
Equipment
- Sterile stock bottles of familiar liquids (i.e., sugar water, salt water, lemon juice)
- Sterile cotton swab or sterile medicine dropper
