Introduction
Health care professionals are expected to perform a variety of tests and measures to effectively examine and evaluate a patient's condition. Deep tendon reflexes are an essential component of a complete clinical examination of the nervous system and an essential aspect of the anatomical and neurological diagnostic process.

The examination and evaluation of deep tendon reflexes will allow the health care practitioner to identify underlying peripheral and/or central nervous system dysfunction and to interpret the impact of identified changes on the individual’s activities of daily living. Additionally, the clinical examination of deep tendon reflexes may be one of the first objective clinical findings that can identify the initial stages of a nervous system disorder.
