Achilles Tendon Localization and Essential Anatomy
With the patient positioned as pictured below or in sitting, the distal tendons of the soleus and gastrocnemius (i.e., Achilles tendon) can be palpated 1-2 cm above the posterior proximal calcaneus. The tendon will look and feel like a broad, thick, and slightly rounded cord.
