Testing Procedures - Motor

Ask the patient to stick his or her tongue out as far as possible and then ask the patient to lick each cheek. Assess symmetry and ease of motion. Strength can be further tested by resisting tongue movements in different directions using a sterile tongue depressor (pictured to the right). Document normal or abnormal responses.
