| The Mini-Mental State Exam The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) is a short quantitative measure of cognitive status for use with adults (Folstein, M.F., et al 1975). The MMSE is a reliable and valid standardized test to screen for cognitive function. The MMSE takes approximately 10 minutes to administer and is scored on a 30 point scale.
